Today, I’m joined by Hugo, Bart, Charley, all three WWII vets, as well as the sheriff of Elayne County.
“Hugo, I’m going to let you present Kelly’s Heroes which you told me is your favorite war movie.”
“Well, I always wanted to drive a tank, but that was not to be. Maybe my legs and I would still be connected, but that was not to be. Don’t much matter anymore; I’ve had wheels for legs these past . . .How many years has it been Charley?”
“71 years you’ve been in that chair, Hugo. 71 years.”
“Yep, and I bet I can still beat that youngster over there at arm wrestling.”
“Is there anything else that’s good about it besides the old tank?”
“Clint, he’s good; nothin’ wrong with that. It’s a fun movie; not like real war; that’s what I like about it.”
Kelly’s Heroes, starring Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, and Carrol O’Connor, is again the treasure hunt theme we saw in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly except set in WWII instead of the Civil War. It’s an excellent story supported by an assortment of wonderfully odd characters. Still a good one to watch even after all these years.
